He was assistant professor at the Mineralogical Department of the University of Vienna working for Professor G. Tschermak where he gained a thorough knowledge of petrography. At that time he published crystallographic study of epidote from the Tauern Mountains in the Salzburg region of Austria. He worked later in Liberec where he taught natural history at German secondary schools, later at German teachers college, and in 1902 he taught at a German secondary school in Liberec where he was assigned to a post of principal in 1911. He was familiar with geology and petrography of the Liberec region, particularly the Ještěd and Jizerské hory Mountains. He studied petrography of numerous basalt occurrences in the Liberec environs and also investigated in detail petrography of phyllites and diabases of the Ještěd Mountains. He described some minerals occurring in basalts as well as in the crystalline complex of the Ještěd Mountains. He investigated petrography of gneisses of northwestern and northern edges of the Jizerské hory Mountains. He recorded the earthquake, which struck the Sudetes region on January 10, 1901. In 1905, he summarized results of his studies of geology and geography of the Liberec region in the volume 'Heimatskunde des Reichenberger Bezirkes', which also includes geological map. He published his papers in 'Tschermaks Mineralogische und petrographische Mitteilungen', and in particular in the journal 'Mitteilungen des Vereines der Naturfreunde in Reichenberg'. |
