Credner, Hermann Carl, Prof., Dr.
Teacher, German geologist and paleontologist, director of the Saxon Geological Institute. In 1865 - 1868 he traveled across North America as an expert. He qualified as a lecturer in geology and paleontology at the University of Leipzig in 1869, then in 1870 he became associate professor and in 1877 full professor of this university. He investigated geology and paleontology of the northern Germany and North America, namely the family of ichthyosteigids. He conducted geological mapping of the Kingdom of Saxony, which resulted in compilation of geological maps at a scale of 1 : 25 000 (Geologische Spezialkarte des Königreich Sachsen), a highly appreciated achievement at that time.
