Dědina, Václav Prof.
Professor of geomorphology at Charles University in Prague, corresponding member of the ČSAV (Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences), doctor of geographical sciences and laureate of the State Prize. After the studies of natural science, mathematics and physics at Charles University he was occupied with geology and geomorphology. He also taught at secondary schools. In 1828, he was appointed associate professor and in 1833 full professor of geomorphology at Charles University. He is the author of a number of papers and essays on regional geomorphology, geography, and natural history. He was the major initiator and editor of a large ten-volume encyclopaedia 'Československá vlastivěda' (the Czechoslovak Natural History)for which he worked out synopsis and also supplied with his own chapters. He struggled for unification of the professional Slavic terminology in geomorphology and geography.
