Abstract

Phonolite-trachyte volcanites of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, from petrochemical and mineralogical point of view showing a strong affinity with the alkaline volcanites of northern Bohemia, are remarkable by the occurrence of glassy forms, namely pumices and obsidians. This feature differentiates them from analogous but substantially older northern Bohemian volcanites, rare glasses of which, mostly devitrified, have rather a pitchstone character.
