Abstract
Here, we describe for the first time the occurrence of well preserved Pictetia from the Albian of northeastern Japan (Miyako Group) and discuss the implications for the systematic assignment of the genus. A detailed systematic description of P. astieriana based on the newly collected material is given. Earlier systematic assignment to lytoceratids resulted from similar conch morphology and ornamentation. Based on the new knowledge of the development of the juvenile suture lines, Pictetia is tentatively assigned to the Hamitidae.References
