Russeger, Jozef M.Sc. born 18th October 1802, Salzburg, died 20th June 1863, Banská Štiavnica Mining engineer, geologist. He studied at the Mining and Forestry Academy in Banská Štiavnica, graduating in 1825. In 1835, he was in charge of expedition to Africa devoted to investigation of geology and mineral deposits in some parts of the continent. On his was back he carried out research in Greece and southern Europe. After his return he was mining advisor involved in mining and mineral exploration of the salt deposits of Wielicska mining district in Galicia. In 1850, he was appointed director of the mine in Banská Štiavnica. He is author of the monograph 'Reisen in Europa, Asien und Afrika' (Stuttgart 1841). Since 1848 he was member of the Academy of Sciences in Vienna.
