mining engineer, geologist, university professor. After graduating from the Law Academy in Prešov he studied at the Mining and Forestry Academy in Banská Štiavnica, finishing in 1839. First he worked as a replacement professor (since 1843) and than as a regular professor in Štiavnica. He was a head of the Department of Geology, Mineralogy, and Palaeontology at the Mining and Forestry Academy in Banská Štiavnica. He built and led the department till 1871. In 1861 he became a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He geologically explored and mapped the environs of Kremnica, Banská Štiavnica, and other parts of Hungary. His geological research in the northern part of the Malé Karpaty Mountains and Záhorská nížina Lowlands constitutes the first comprehensive geological compilation of this area. He participated in the foundation of the geological and mining society in Pest. He is the author of works 'Geognostiche Skizze der Gegend von Kremnitz' (mit der geognostische Karte von Kremnitz), Vienna 1847, 'Tubicaulis von Ilia bei Schemnitz' (Vienna 1849), 'Geologische Karte der Gegend von Schemnitz' (Vienna 1853), 'A geologiai jékorszakról' (Vienna 1863), and more articles in 'Haidinger's Berichte' and other magazines.
