Faller, Gustáv born 2nd March 1816, Gelnice, died 20th January 1881 Slovak mining engineer. After his studies of philosophy and law he worked at the Mining and Forestry Academy in Banská Štiavnica in the years 1837 - 1840. He belonged among the most renowned representatives of mining engineering and mining education system, specifically in the Banská Štiavnica ore district. He published an extensive historical description of the Dědičná štola (drainage adit) of Jozef II (Voznická) and a cross cut leading to the Leopold shaft in Hodruša and Amálie in Banská Štiavnica. He was occupied with mining methods and mineral processing. He published papers on lead and silver mining and processing in Příbram and lignite coal fields in Hungary. After termination of his scientific activities he concentrated on the history of the Mining and Forestry Academy in Banská Štiavnica and, for its centenary celebration, worked out a large monograph ' Pamätnici' (The Eyewitnesses). His major contribution was in publishing and editorial activities, particularly concerning the mining studies. |
