Natural scientists, teacher, mineralogist. He studied at secondary school and teachers college in Brno and, since his youth, was interested in natural history and science, especially mineralogy and botany. Since 1892, he was teaching at primary schools in Hustopeče and Brno. Since 1902, he taught at the German teachers college in Olomouc, where he worked for 30 years. In 1895, he founded 'Lehrklub für Naturkunde' in Brno. He also was a conservator in the Moravian Provincial Museum in Brno. He played an important role in preservation of the collections of the Municipal Museum of Natural History in Olomouc, where he deposited and described more than 9 000 specimens, in addition to 400 volumes of general herbarium. He was active in Moravian organizations of natural history, botanical gardens and in the Council for scientific research of Moravia. He wrote thirty papers dealing mainly with regional mineralogy and botany of Moravia and Silesia. He also published bibliographies of Moravian-Silesian publications related to natural science. Apart from articles on botany, zoology, and enviromental protection, he wrote 19 essays on geology, the most important being ' Die nutzbaren Mineralien und Gesteine Mährens und Schlesiens', published in 1906.
