Abstract

Green secondary Ni-mineral from the Kladno coal district (Czech Republic) designated till now as "zaratite" corresponds compositionally to a hydroxylated nickel carbonate sulphate of composition close to paraotwayite or otwayite. The material studied contains 52.4-53.8 wt. % NiO, 1.0-1.8 wt. % CoO, 0.8-1.2 wt. % FeO and 9.4-13.5 wt. % SO3, along with detected CO3 and supposed H2O. X-ray powder diffraction data could not be obtained probably due to poor crystalinity of the mineral and intergrown barite and dickite.
