Abstract

The comparison of geologically defined radon index at general (1 : 500 000 ) and detailed (1 : 50 000) scales with geometric means of indoor radon concentrations in municipalities has outlined the possible approaches of detection of houses exceeding the action level 400 Bq . m-3 in the Czech Republic. Test of different methods has confirmed the prognostic power of geologically based radon risk maps. At present the method based on GIS analysis of centroids of municipalities and underlying rock type seems to be most efficient for the Radon Programme strategy at a general scale. However the newly designed approach will be oriented to GIS based geostatistical characterisation of intravilans of municipalities combining the soil gas and indoor radon datasets.
