Abstract

Paleosol and soil sediment interlayers are marked index horizons for interregional correlations. They occur both within volcanic mostly pyroclastic and nonvolcanic series. They evidence deposition and tectonic stillstands or breaks in volcanic aktivity in particular in the surroundings of the Guazapa volcano. The paleosols belong into the plastosol group and are represented by earthyfied rotlehms and braunlehms respectively.
