Abstract

New, detailed geological maps were produced on the basis of geological research within the framework of "Development assistance project" in El Salvador. New geological maps needed better stratigraphic divisions. After comparison of the stratigraphic columns composed for individual areas separately, several similarities were found. Three volcanostratigraphic sequences were thus interpreted as stratigraphic units of regional validity. These are: "Basal ignimbrites", "Inferior -" and "Superior andesites". On the other hand, other defined sequences are of local validity only.
