Abstract

The aim of the gravity survey was to find out continuation of the Holstejn cave in the northern part of the Moravian Karst area. The Holstejn cave is a relict of an ancient cave system which is located 10-15 m above the recent draining level. The course of the cave is known from digging works 200 m from its entrance in the Holstejn valley. The cave is almost entirely filled with sediments with exception of several decimeters near the roof. Gravity profile PI (Fig. 1) is located over the known course of the cave. In the map of residual anomalies we can observe negative anomaly with amplitude of 30 ^Gal at this place. The roof of the cave is here 33 m below the ground, its width is 30 m and its height is 15-20 m. The gravity measurement revealed that the Holstejn cave continues from profile P1 towards SW and its cross section is approximately the same in the area of study.
