Abstract

The N-1 borehole drilled in 70's of the 20th century penetrated 75 m of the volcaniclastic deposits at the southeastern margin of the Doupovské hory Volcanic Complex (DHVC). The pyroclastic products of the initial Early Oligocene phase occur in this area. The preserved drill-core allows re-interpretation of volcaniclastic deposits, processes of their fragmentation and sedimentation. This is a crucial point for understanding the style of the Early Oligocene volcanic activity in the DHVC. Deposits of phreatomagmatic activity from local source predominate in the sequence,) being covered by lahar deposits associated with later predominantly effusive activity. The N-1 borehole documents important role of local monogenic volcanism in the early evolution of the DHVC.
