Abstract

Tectonic deformation of trilobites by the Variscan folding is of crucial importance for determination ofthe tectonic regime, viz. for the deformation analysis. The preserved bilateral symmetry in deformed trilobites may serve as a proof of deformation by pure shear. The material from three sites in Central Bohemia (Cambrian, Ordovician and Silurian formations) has yielded indications of deformation by pure shear. The sites of deformation are confined to faulted zones striking NE-SW to ENE-WSW.
