Abstract

The old mining works are those without operation responsibility, they could also be designated as the „orphan" mining works. In their case the Government, i. e. the Ministry of the Environment assumed the responsibility for safety and prevention of possible risks. The Czech Mining Act implies periodical inspection of technical facilities built for elimination of risks associated with the old mining works. During the past 3 years, the Czech Geological Survey and the Czech Geological Survey – Geofond have conducted a pilot project which developed methodology and filing system for the inspection. The last year of the project was also focused on check up of the new technical facilities built on critical localities in the course of the first project year. Based on the results and experience of the revisions of old mining works recommendations for preparation of a new long-term project and for risk elimination at old mining works have been formulated.
