Abstract

Sarmatian and Pannonian sediments were studied on the map sheet Vracov. Clays, sands and silts are varicoloured and calcareous. Silts are the most wide-spread type of rocks and they are often similar to loess. Microfauna and macrofauna of the Sarmatian and Pannonian sediments are relatively rich, we have distinguished biozones B, C-D and E (Bzenec Formation in Lower Pannonian). Several layers of Pannonian gravels first of all consist of pebbles of quartz and cherts. Kyjov humodyl seam was reached just in boreholes, during mapping we only observed coal clays.
