Soil water

In spring 2014 we started to apply S and N treatments and combination of both in randomised block design (eight doses per year, NH4NO3 50 kg N ha-1yr-1; H2SO4 50 kg S ha-1yr-1, control included)

Soil water (forest floor) nitrate (NO3-) concentrations affected by treatments since May 2014. Despite addition of extra 50 kg N/ha/yr, N immobilization was ether high.

Soil water (forest floor) dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations affected by treatments since May 2014. Concentration of DOC immediately responded to the changes of soil solution pH.

Soil water (forest floor) DOC/DON (dissolved organic nitrogen) ratios affected by treatments since May 2014. DOC/DON ratios did not change significantly since treatment started suggesting rather limited effects of treatments on quality of the dissolved humic substances.

Soil respiration

Plots subjected to different treatments (Ctrl, S, N and S+N) were measured regularly for total soil respiration. We used single survey chamber for regular monthly soil respiration measurements and long-term chambers for extended (two straight days) soil respiration measurements every two months (May, July, September and November).
