Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Miniéres (BRGM), France
The French Geological Survey is a governmental institution with industrial and commercial interests (EPIC), under the joint supervision of the ministries responsible for Research, for Industry and for Environment with a staff: of 844 employees and a, 2003 turnover of €81.49 million. BRGM targets are to understand geological phenomena, develop new methodologies and techniques, produce and disseminate high-quality data, in order to provide public authorities with, in a context of sustainable development.
BRGM is deeply involved in definition of best technical solutions for CO2 storage:
Identification and characterisation of sites and reservoirs ( incl.geothermal fields)
Storage aptitude based on long-term prediction of CO2/water/rock interaction
Monitoring: micro-seismic and other geophysics, hydrogeology, soil gas
Mineralogical sequestration
Information and communication technologies
BRGM participated or participate in several international CO2 research projects: SACS, GESTCO, WEYBURN, NASCENT, CO2NET, PICOR, SAMCARDS, CO2GEONET, CASTOR
