Raumer, Karl von Prof., Dr.h.c. born 9th April 1783, Wörlitz (Saxony), died 16th May 1865 Geologist and teacher. He studied at universities in Göttingen, Halle, and Freiberg. He completed his studies in Paris and at Pestalozzi College of Education in Iferten. In 1811, he was appointed the first professor of mineralogy at the newly established University of Breslau (now Wroclaw) and, at the same time, mining counsellor of the Mining Office in the same city. For political reasons he was transferred to Halle and, between 1827 and 1865, worked at the University of Erlangen in Bavaria where he was awarded honorary title of the doctor of theology, and honorary citizenship. He was recognized for his regional geological and mineralogical studies. He investigated and published the geology of northern Bohemia, Silesia, and the Klodzko region. He was also involved in pedagogy and completed the history of pedagogy in four volumes called 'Geschichte der Pädagogik', published in seven editions.
