Kořistka, Karel Prof. Dr. born 7th February 1825, Březová near Svitavy, died 19th January 1906, Prague Geographer, mathematician. After his studies at secondary schools in Jihlava and Brno he moved to Vienna to study natural science, mathematics and technology Vienna and then he joined the Mining and Forestry Academy in Banská Štiavnica where he later was an assistant and adjunct professor cooperating with Ch.J. Doppler, the famous physicist. In the years 1849 - 1851 he taught at the Polytechnic College in Brno and, in 1851 - 1893, he worked at the College of Technology in Prague. He belonged among the prominent geographers and surveyors of that time. He was excellent at broad spectrum of earth sciences and related disciplines, such as geography, geodesy, geology, orography, geomorphology, carthography, statistics and even geophysics. During his scientific career he wrote more than seventy papers dealing with various topics. He was also active in education, school system and public life. He carried out surveying in the eastern Alps for the Imperial Geological Institute in Vienna.
