Abstract

Thanks to its physical character, fine structure, high content of mica and clay minerals as well as a good homogeneity, bluish-greenish Zapy sandstone became a very popular and easily workable building and figural stone. However, due to high 29-33 % porosity, more then 10 % content of mica and clay minerals (chlorite, muscovite, sericite, glauconite, and kaolinite), and omnipresence of a small amount of micritic calcite, which react with S03 and water, very quick deterioration of the stone proceeded.
