Abstract

The stone, from which two dimensional statues of Muses and Pegassus were cut is limestone. It was quarried probably from Aflenz (Austria). The statues were erected around the year 1900 on the front portal of the Silesian Museum in Opava. Skeletal limestone with high porosity and low density and strength has been suffering from massive degradation processes and previous restoration attempts.
