Abstract

During the last year of the project (2005) field training and the final workshop were organized. Major results reached during the first two years of the project were presented at a workshop in Ouagadougou in which representatives of various ministries and other governmental and professional (e.g., mining and environmental) organizations actively participated. Presentation and distribution of a booklet with guidelines on the technical-economical evaluation of gold potential in the waste material after mining and processing of gold ore and improvements of local primitive technologies in Burkina Faso together with the follow up field training of selected geologists will help to keep the project sustained. Based on our results and field experience we estimate a total between 20 and 30 t of gold in waste material after primitive gold mining and processing in Burkina Faso. The importance of the results for the development of economy and thus reduction of poverty was stressed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Burkina Faso at the final workshop of the project.
