Abstract

In the Silesian Unit a complete section across the oceanic red beds was documented along the Bystrý potok Brook (Fig. 1) in the Moravskoslezské Beskydy Mts. Tectonically the Silesian Unit belongs to the Outer Western Carpathian nappe system. The precise stratigraphical interpretation is complicated in consequence of absence of planktonic foraminifera and calcareous nannofossils. Section begins in the upper part of the Lhoty Formation and continues through the Mazák Formation to the lower and middle part of the Godula Formation. On the basis of dinoflagellates and agglutinated foraminifera the range of section is from the Late Albian to the Campanian. Grey shales and flysch sediments are rich in ichnofossils
