Abstract

A new finding of karstified marbles in Janské Lázně - Sluneční stráň II, Krkonoše Mts. is described. The marbles are present as fragments of a thick layer in albitic phyllites of the Krkonoše-Jizera crystalline complex. Karstification can be observed on the outcrops. The predominant type of the marble is lightly grey to lightly beige, with a weekly planar fabric. The marbles consist predominantly of calcite and dolomite of fine to medium grain. Orientation of foliation of the marbles is ENE-WSW, dipping at 50° to SSE. Direction of lineation is E-W, dipping at 30° to SE. Thus, the structural elements of the newly discovered marbles are oriented equally as the foliations and lineations of other marbles of the region.
