Abstract

During geological survey and at a revision of older maps and results, many whole rock analyses, thin sections and translucent heavy mineral analyses were done from the rocks of the Hlinsko Palaeozoic and Eoproterozoic. The revision resulted in a conclusion that there are significant differences between Vitanov and Hlinsko sequences. Vitanov Formation is a volcano- sedimentary complex cropping out in the south of the Hlinsko fault. Its age is probably Eoproterozoic. The Hlinsko Palaeozoic is a petrologically different complex composed of the Silurian Mrákotin Formation (determined graptoliths etc., silicites, spotted shales - fruchtschiefer and quartzites) and of the Hlinsko-Rychmburk Formation, a siliciclastic probably of the Ordovician age. Thus, both Vitanov and Hlinsko sequences differ in age, metamorphosis, lithology, geochemistry, translucent heavy mineral assemblages and facial development.
