Abstract

A consultation about the origin of Gothic Pieta statue, which has been in possession of the Metropolitan Museum in New York since 2001 was done with the present author. XRD research in the course of restoration showed, that the Pieta is not made of Prague "opuka'Vmarly silicite, but a pure microcrystalline limestone. Thus, in spite of "horizontal style" its origin cannot be connected with a Prague Gothic Peter Parléř workshop at the St. Vitus Cathedral.
