Abstract

Forgotten Gothic statue Pieta deposited in the collection of artistic works at Magdeburg Cathedral has been made of Turonian marly silicite ("opuka" in Czech or German "Planer"). The statue has been found to be of Prague origin made in Parler's workshop at the St. Vitus Cathedral. Chemical and mineralogical composition as well as an artistic design shows great similarity with the Pieta from Toruň.
