Abstract

Mineral phases of the pelitic fillings in the Štramberk Limestone (Baška development, Silesian Unit, Outer Western Carpathians) were identified by X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis (as a supplementary method). Only small variations in the quantitative representation of individual phases have been distinguished. Main components are quartz and calcite, while dolomite is present in higher amount only in some samples. Low quantity of pyrite was identified. Using the oriented and ethylene glycolated aggregates mounts provided the presence of clay minerals - smectite, mica (illite), chlorite, kaolinite, and randomly interstratified mica/vermiculite.
