Abstract

Based on geological mapping on the sheet Strážnice in the year 2002, six profiles in the over bank deposits of the Radějovka River between Radějov and Petrov villages were studied by means of palaeontological methods. The study of fossil malacofaunas covered a wide range of habitats and environments that could be summarized as follows: more extensive open ground is indicated by the rich occurrence of xerothermophilous elements while far less woodland habitats of various types are represented by few woodland molluscan communities. Several stagnant/flowing water molluscs document the presence of aquatic habitats. Total absence of cold-climate index molluscan species as well as the absence of Upper and Middle Holocene index species generally date the over bank deposits to Lower Holocene period, which is also confirmed by the presence of modern immigrant species of Xerolenta obvia and Oxychilus inopinatus.
