Proterozoic metasedimentary rocks of the Altenberg block
Abstract
Proterozoic paragneisses of the Altenberg block are considered to be affected by recrystallization and migmatization produced by their partial melting during intrusion of the Variscan Erzgebirge pluton. Locally are common up to several ten meters thick intercalations of fine-grained massive greywacke paragneisses (Dichte Gneise) and intercalations of light grey fine-grained orthogneisses representing probably metamorphic aplites associated with Cadomian granitoids widely occurring east of the Teplice rhyolite body. The mica schists in the neighbourhood of Moldava pass in their metamorphism gradually into paragneisses. On the basis of tectonic measurements it is possible to consider the Altenberg block to be a part of the Sayda dome, whose east margin plunges under the Teplice rhyolite body.
