Abstract

The old, pre-Quaternary relief is covered by a relatively thick loess blanket. At least 2 fossil soils of braunlehm type are developed within the loess sequence. These strongly weathered plastosol type soils which belong to the Mediterranean to subtypical soil province developed (in our climatic conditions) during Lower Pleistocene interglacials. the youngst soil of this type correlated with PK VII and is usually dated to the beginning of Middle Pleistocene (mid-Elsterian interglacial M1/2). Typical rotlehms are in places preserved upon strongly weathered mica schist of Moravicum. The youngest soil correlated with PK X developed during the Cromerian interglacial (G/M) but a higher age cannot be excluded.
