Abstract

On the map at 1:25 000 scale, sheet 34-241 Holíč, locality Mikulčice Quaternary sediments are represented by natural organic sediments (paleomeander of the Morava River) and anthropogenic deposits. Pollen analyses from several profiles in this area were studied by Svobodová, Jankovská, Kaplan and Břízová. Stratigraphical classification is not clear at present. The eolian sands overlying Upper Pleistocene fluvial gravel and sand of the valley terrace of the Morava River show a development typical for this area. The sand forming characteristic dunes are dated to Late Glacial. The existence of Mesolithic to Slavonic settlements and has been found o their surfaces. The youngest Holocene sediments are flood loams.
