Abstract

Animal bones and teeth from certain Palaeolithic sites in the Předmostí area were analysed. Bones and teeth of mammoth, wolf and bear were recognised at Předmostí I b-Hřbitov Mammoth, horse, bovid and reindeer were recognised ithin material from Předmostí II - Hradisko. From an osteometrical point of view, the bones and teeth are comparable to those from Palaeolithic sites, including those in the Bohemian and Moravian karst, with the exception of the bones of a young horse. the overall composition of the fauna at the sites of concern here suggest that they were inhabited by humans during the declining phase of a warm interval within the last glacial, a suggestion which is compatible with the available radiocarbon dates.
