Abstract

The analysis of possibility to find Cretaceous source rocks in the outer Western Carpathians was the subject of present paper. In the study area there are deposits rich on the organic carbone material (Upper Valanginian - 5.76 % Corg, Upper Aptian - 3.7 % Corg, Albian - 2.94 % Corg), mostly darkly coloured claystones and siltstones, which settled in the anoxic conditions. Source rocks character of sediments was studied on the basis of structure of the organic material and degree of their transformation. Vendryně and Hradiště Formations are potentially source rocks for oil. Veřovice Fomation has a potential for gas.
