Abstract

Subsurface structure of sediment is one of the main sources of information on depositional conditions. We tested the electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) in the detection of valley fill deposits, their quantification and in the survey of the morphology of bedrock. Three transverse ERT profiles were conducted in Morávka River basin (Moravskoslezské Beskydy Mts.). The ERT measurement brought a basic image about general geoelectrical characteristics of the valley fill. ERT image of the material of sedimentary accumulations usually strongly contrasts with the bedrock resistivity characteristics. It is caused by a high resistivity of air-filled space between the gravel particles. The interpretation of ERT results regarding the sediment stratification is problematical, especially be- cause of the measurement resolution.
