The lignite deposits on Iceland from the perspective of the mining history

Abstract

The lignite deposits mined on Iceland in the past are described here. The aim of the work was to focus on a little-known mining episode on Iceland nowadays, realized in the first half of the 20th century. In participation with the Icelandic Institute of Natural History and the University of Iceland the intensive field work was performed, during which seven old mines it were identified - Botn, Gil, Dufansdalur, ternudalur, Stalfjall, Tungunama and Reyôarfjorôur. The drawings of floor plans were made and the stratigraphic situation it was studied here.
