Abstract

In 2013 geological surveying started in Mongolian Altai Mts. that included mapping of Quaternary sediments. To obtain data about a development of the area fluvial sediments are the most important. Relics of 6 terraces were recognized on steep slopes of valleys, the highest one lying in the relative height of 70 m. In mouths of side valleys alluvial fans appear having deposited usually in several periods. Intermountainous depressions are filled up by a regolith composed of rock fragments and mineral grains that were most probably transported for a short distance and deposited by a sheet run off. Valley bottoms along braided riversare composed of gravels on topofwhich recent sand dunes are being formed due to a high wind activity.
