Abstract

Corundum-kyanite-zoisite-muscovite rock forms 10 cm thickgreen layer at junction of phlogopite schist and calcite-dolomite marble. The locality is Pacovská hora quarry near Chýnov, at present in a protected area. Three episodes of metamorphic evolution are indicated by successive mineral assemblages: 1) zoisite + kyanite + rutile I (± carbonates, phlogopite, titanite, albite?); 2) plagioclase + corundum + rutile II; 3) muscovite (fuchsite) formed by replacement of plagioclase under K+ and H20 introduction. It is suggested that the protolith was probably a marlstone modified by admixture of karstic bauxite carrying increased chromium and vanadium. Direct contribution from intraformational basalts is less probable in view of the very low iron content in the corundum-muscovite rock.
