Zircon from extremely fractionated West-European Variscan peraluminous granites

Abstract

Zircons from extremely evolved peraluminous rare-metal P, F-rich granites at Beauvoir (France) and Argemela (Portugal) were analyzed, using EMPA for W, P, As, Nb, Ta, Si, Ti, Zr, Hf, Th, U, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Er, Yb, Al, Sc, Bi, Mn, Fe, Ca, Pb, S, and F, and compared with zircons from similar granites from Podlesí, Czech Republic. Zircons from Beauvoir and Argemela are relatively enriched in Hf and often near the ideal composition of (Zr, Hf)SiO4. Zircons from Podlesí are relatively enriched in P, Th, W, Nb, Ta, Y, Yb, Sc, Nb, Bi, Ca, Fe, Al, and F, and are more strongly metamictised.
