Abstract

Various types of products of mafic monogenetic volcanism were observed in the Levín volcanic field within the Permian post-orogenic Krkonoše Piedmont Basin. Two quarries offer excellent study materials in the area, where outcrops are mostly lacking. These quarries are situated on the opposite margins of the volcanic field. Scoria-flow deposits derived from Strombolian eruptions occur in the quarry of Hvězda. These are interbedded with lava flow and deposits of a phreatomagmatic eruption (base-surge, accretionary lapilli rich fall-out). Agglutinated spatter cone deposits were described in Studenec Quarry. Hawaiian volcanic activity was followed by subsequent lava flows emplaced in subaquatic conditions producing pillow-lava structures and hyaloclastic breccias.
