Fluorite deposites in Mongolia
Abstract
Fluorite mineralization is widespread throughout Mongolia. Economic fluorite deposites occurs in 3 types according to our results: epithermal vein and metasomatic fluorite-carbonate-hosted ore bodies with carbonatite and without carbonatite fluid influence. Wide range of inclusion assemblages are found in fluorite from these different deposite types. The most frequent inclusion types include: melt, melt-fluid, C02-rich fluid and aqueous-rich fluid inclusions. The frequent evolution of the ore-forming fluid is from a melt-fluid at HT, through a C02-rich fluid to most widespread aqueous-rich fluid at LT. Laser ablation-ICP-MS data for single grains combined with detail CL images revealed either similar fluorite patterns and concentration gradients from core to rim in similar deposite types. LREE, U and Th enrichment close to the crystal faces in some grains result from a submicrometer-sized LREE, u and Th-enriched mineral grains.
