Abstract

The term of epigenetic honeycombs is introduced herein for pits and pitted surfaces, whose origin started with the creation of pits in a mechanic or a biogenic way. Further development of the initial pits takes a part only at specific intervals of size, mutual distance and shape; obviously, time interval has also to be taken into account. Recognition of epigenetic honeycombs is important for the study of origin and distribution of depressions/elevations on sandstone surfaces that subsequently lead to the development of natural honeycomb surfaces.
