Late Paleolithic site in Boršice near Buchlovice in Moravia
Abstract
The excavation in 2006 at the Boršice-Chrástka followed the test pitting in 2005 (ŠKRDLA et al. 2006a). The total area of 7.5 m2 was excavated using precise methodology including artifacts recording (laser theodolite) and complete wet-sieving. The excavation yielded numerous archaeological and osteological material. The osteological material excavated in 2006 enlarged the faunal spectrum from previous excavation by KLÍMA (1965a, b). The structure of osteological material is unusual, because mandibles and skulls of fur-bearer animals (bear, polar fox, hare, wolwerine, wolf and reindeer) dominated. High proportion of wolwerine remains is also unusual for Moravian Gravettian localities. We were able to recognize two separate find horizons using detailed microstratigraphy. However, individual horizons are not dated so far, but bones and charcoal have been sent for AMS radiocarbon dating. The excavation is planned to continue in 2007.
