Abstract

In the Melechov massif, methods convenient for investigating radioactive waste deposits were tested in boreholes Mel-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 located within the test polygons. Density parameters, porosity, natural radioactivity and magnetic susceptibility were measured on specimens of the Lipnice, Kouty and Melechov granites taken from the above boreholes. Velocity of propagation of elastic pressure waves as well as resistivity (both in three perpendicular directions on a specimen) were measured on a selected collection of specimens. For the structural purpose, the anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility was investigated accompanied by thermomagnetic analyses. In addition, geomechanic properties were investigated such as Young modulus of elasticity, Poisson's ratio, (compressive) cylindrical strength and (effective) fracture toughness. The results help to increase quality of the interpretation of the geophysical methods including the AMS in the whole area of the Melechov massif and they have been presented in full by Hanák et al. (2006).
