Abstract

Chert Formation" in upper Cenomanian of Police Basin is mostly composed of siltstones. These rocks are low silicified (content of silicification products is up to 5 %). In some cases cherts with content of SiO2 above 50 % (without the clastic quartz) originated. Presence of glauconite inhibited a migration and crystallization of silica, but particular silicification did not inhibit formation of new glauconite. Migration of silica did not proceed into overlying glauconite horizon on the base of the Turonian. The origin of "Chert Formation" in Police Basin is due to mass development of silicisponges.
