Abstract

Miocene deposits of the Carpathian Foredeep developed above the basal clasts of the Lower Badenian were biostratigraphically evaluated according to foraminifers and calcareous nannofossils on the territory of map-sheet Olomouc. Following associations of foraminifers have been recognised here: 1. association with rare Globigerinoides bisphericus, 2. horizon with Vaginulina legumen and "Lanzendorf" microfauna, 3. assemblage above the horizon with Vaginulina legumen and with shallow-water species, 4. microfauna with exclusively benthic species, 5. microfauna indicating reduced salinity with Uvigerina brunnensis and Bulimina gutsulica. Nannofossil taphocoenoses yielded species Sphenolithus heteromorphus, Helicosphaera walbersdorfensis and relatively common discoasters and thus documented zone NN5-?NN6. Problems to correlate standard nannozones and regional stages for Central Paratethys within the Middle Miocene is discussed.
