Abstract

The morphological characters of jaw teeth of the main European genera of the family Xenacanthidae (Orthacanthus, Plicatodus, Triodus, and Xenacanthus) are summarized in the table. Two new characters (the relative mesio-distal prolongation of the base and the relative size of the apical button) are defined. Xenacanthid genera Bohemiacanthus, Hagenoselache, and Lebachacanthus are discussed. Find of scales similar to the scales of Lebachacanthus is described from the locality Klobuky (Kladno-Rakovník Basin; Zdětín Horizon of the Líně Formation; Stephanian C). The question how to distinguish the jaw teeth of Lebachacanthus from those of Orthacanthus is opened.
